Design Glossary

Setting
Where the play takes place
Costume
The clothes that the characters wear.
Set
The backdrop and scenery on the stage that give the impression of the plays setting.
Model Box
A scale model of the set as it will look and work during a performance.
Special Effects
The lights and the sound which help to create the mood and feeling of the play.
Stage Manager
The person who works the lights and sound and looks after the actors on tour
Props
Any small object, like a ball, that is used by the actors in the play.
Stage Directions
Instructions that help the Actors and Director find out information that isn't in the dialogue. For example, where a scene is set or what mood a scene should be played in.
